Ways to STOP Living for the Weekends


Wake-up, caffeinate, hustle, repeat. Am I right? When your work calendar is full and you spend all day hustling and checking boxes off your to-do list, it can be difficult to prioritize fun stuff during the week. I totally get it! Between school, work, homework, after school activities, house work, and feeding all the creatures in the house, sometimes I blink and it’s already time for bed and to start the whole process all over again. The next think you know, month’s have gone by and you can’t remember the last time you played with your kids, had romantic time with your partner, or just took a few minutes to have some fun.


With our schedules being so hectic, we’ve started trying to do more fun stuff during the week instead of saving them for a weekend or holiday. It’s made all the difference! If we’re talking about being intentional with our time and the moments we get to spend with the people we love, that means celebrating life and enjoying the little things every day of the week.


Here are a few fun things you can do during the week to keep spirits high:

  • Play a game - Go Fish, Yahtzee, Chutes & Ladders… pick up a favorite and relive your childhood. I got a lot of really good deals on board games last Black Friday. Score!

  • Catch a movie

  • Go to the mall

  • Have dinner out - let the kids pick the place

  • Create your own mini pizza night - flatten out individual biscuits, cover in your favorite toppings, bake, and enjoy!

  • Breakfast for dinner - a McCain family fave. Happens at least once a week.

  • Go get a special dessert

  • Head to the park

  • Have a lunch date - can’t manage a date night? Throw in a lunch date!

  • Pile the blankets in the floor and have a movie night at home

  • Unplug for a night - put all your gadgets in a basket and walk away. Enjoy your time together and just be.

  • Dance party - put on your favorite Spotify playlist [link] and shake your thing.

  • Go bowling

  • Color or draw - I have a few coloring books that are just MINE. No kids aloud, man.

  • Go to a pet store

  • Make your own sundae night

  • Read

  • Get crafty

  • Buy discounted tickets to local events - we’ve got tickets to several different shows on a Tuesday or Wednesday night.

  • Waffle Bar Wednesday - found this idea on Pinterest and was in LOVE. (or, Whiskey Wednesday for the grown-ups)

  • Go for a drive

  • Plant a garden

Sit down and talk it out! What are things you typically do on the weekends or holidays? Can they be done during the week instead? It’s about being intentional with your time. It’s about finding happiness no matter what day it is!
