A few years ago we started walking to school in the mornings. About halfway to the school stands a Little Free Library - and we stop there often to scope out new books or give some of our own. It’s an ever-changing selection, and it’s always exciting to see what’s inside! I’ve also trained my boys to spot “mom books” - they do a pretty darn good job.
If you’ve never seen a Little Free Library, you’re totally missing out! These quaint, tiny boxes increase access to books in communities all around the world. They’re a tool for building community, for meeting people, and for sharing book love. It all began in 2009 with one little library and a simple message: TAKE A BOOK, LEAVE A BOOK. It has since morphed into an incredible non-profit organization that’s truly impacting literacy for all kids (and adults too!).
Check out how many there are near where I live in CA…
Another great way to share the love of reading - with your kids & your community!
I’m putting this book on my TBR list to learn more about Little Free Libraries!
And coming in September - a picture book about Little Free Libraries! AHHH!
